FAQ - Air Tag for Dogs

(Click on question to see the answer)

Does the AirTag come included?

No — our holders and collars are designed to hold an Apple AirTag, which is sold separately by Apple. This is clearly noted on every product page. AirTag is available from Apple directly, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and other Australian retailers.

What collar width do your AirTag holders fit?

Each product lists its compatible collar width range clearly on the product page. As a general guide: small dog collars are typically 15–20mm wide, medium dog collars 20–25mm, and large dog collars 25–40mm. Measure your dog's current collar strap with a ruler if you're unsure. When in doubt, check the product page or contact us before ordering.

How do I make sure my dog's collar fits correctly?

A correctly fitted collar is essential for AirTag holder security, a loose collar means a loose holder.

Use the two-finger rule: slide two fingers upright (not flat) between the collar and your dog's neck. If you can't fit two fingers it's too tight. If you can fit three or more it's too loose.

What is the difference between a clip-on and a thread-on AirTag holder?

A clip-on holder attaches to your collar strap using a spring or pinch clip — quick and easy to move between collars but less secure for very active or large dogs. A thread-on holder slides directly onto the collar strap through a channel or bar system and cannot be removed without unthreading the collar itself. For active dogs, swimmers and large breeds we strongly recommend a thread-on design.

I've had an AirTag holder fall off my dog's collar before — which one won't?

We understand this frustration, it's one of the reasons we offer multiple security levels. If you've had a clip-on holder fail, move up to our best seller waterproof holder (threads onto the strap, cannot be knocked off during play) or our Heavy Duty Screw-Lock holder (dual stainless steel bars plus screw closure, the most secure option we carry). Both are designed specifically for dogs that put their gear to the test.

Are your AirTag holders waterproof?

Our best seller waterproof case and our Heavy Duty Screw-Lock holder are both rated IP7 waterproof and suitable for dogs that swim or walk in heavy rain. Our lightweight silicone clip holder is splash-resistant for light rain and puddles but is not designed for swimming. Each product page clearly states the waterproof rating. If your dog swims regularly, we recommend the Heavy Duty option.

Will the holder fall off during play or swimming?

Our Heavy Duty Screw-Lock holder uses a dual stainless steel bar system that threads through the collar strap and locks with a screw closure, it cannot be knocked, pulled or shaken off under any normal conditions including swimming and rough play. Our best seller waterproof case thread-on holder is similarly secure for active dogs. The lightweight clip holder is suitable for calm to moderately active dogs but we recommend upgrading for very boisterous or large dogs.

Which AirTag holder is best for a large dog?

For large and working breeds we recommend our Heavy Duty Screw-Lock holder. Large dogs generate significant force during play and movement — a clip-on holder that works perfectly for a small dog may not hold securely on a large dog's collar. The screw-lock design fits collars 25mm to 45mm wide and uses stainless steel hardware that won't fatigue or snap under stress.

Is AirTag 2 compatible with your cat holders and collars?

Yes, all Tag It All dog holders and collars are compatible with both the original Apple AirTag and AirTag 2. Apple kept the physical dimensions identical between generations, so all existing holders work perfectly with AirTag 2.

How accurate is AirTag for tracking dogs in Australia?

AirTag uses Apple's Find My network, a system that uses the network of Apple devices to anonymously relay your AirTag's location to your iPhone. In Australian suburbs and cities, network coverage is dense enough to provide location updates within minutes when your dog is moving through populated areas.  In remote locations there may not be enough Apple devices to give an accurate location.

AirTag is not a real-time GPS tracker. It updates location when it comes within Bluetooth range of another Apple device. In practice for suburban Australian dog owners this means frequent location updates during walks, at parks and in residential areas. In rural and remote areas, updates depend on how frequently Apple device users pass by.

AirTag 2, released in January 2026, delivers improved range and faster location updates compared to the original.

Can I move the AirTag holder between collars?

Yes, most of our collar attachments can be moved from one collar to another easily. The screw-lock design takes approximately 30 seconds to transfer. This is useful if your dog has different collars for different activities — an everyday walking collar, a swimming collar, a training collar and so on.  Or look to get an attachment for each collar and just move the Air Tag - this is especially easy with the screw front attachment.

Do you ship to all of Australia?

Yes, we ship to all Australian states and territories via a range of carriers including Australia Post. Orders over $40 receive free shipping. Most orders are dispatched within 1–2 business days and delivered within 3–7 business days depending on your location. You'll receive a tracking number by email once your order is on its way.

Can I use a dog AirTag holder on my cat's collar?

Most dog collar holders are too large and heavy for cat collars. Dog collars are typically 20–40mm wide while most cat collars are 10–15mm wide, a dog holder will spin, slide and sit incorrectly on a cat collar. We have a dedicated range of AirTag accessories designed specifically for cats. Visit our For Cats page for cat-specific options.
